Hello and welcome
The idea of Currawong Community Singing Group was born in a car being driven down the main street of Oatlands in Tasmania. Rowena and her husband Grant discussed the importance of music and how it has helped manage her father, Roger’s illness as he continues to battle Alzheimer’s disease. Providing a sweet spot, a happy time, in amongst what can be at times difficult days. Having witnessed the power of music and watching how people engage with her father as he sings to them, planted the seed for a Community Singing Group in Rowena’s mind.
Not just any Singing Group. The group needed to be accepting of others – it had to include every range of ability. It had to be- all inclusive. A happy and accepting place for people to connect.
It simply doesn’t matter if you can sing or not or if you can read the words or not. You can just hum along, if that is what you are comfortable doing. What matters most is the fact you are brave enough to make the initial effort and walk through the doors of the hall and participate. The music will take care of the rest.
We can do this; you can do this. It just takes one step. Come sing with us each Sunday and be part of magic that helps bring people together.
Support us
Our singing group is new and evolving. Our launch was in October 2023 thanks to fantastic support from El Ray and Jo Anne Kemp who stepped up initially from the community as our singing leaders. For 2024 we are looking at hosting a range of guest singing group leaders to continue to weave the power of music within the community.

We are looking for sponsorship to help pay for costs associated with the Singing Group in order to keep membership free for our participants. We would be very grateful and appreciative of any financial support, no matter how large or small.
